A FIRE which ripped through a Harlow chemists shortly before 1am this morning (July 23) is being treated as suspicious.

Two crews from Harlow spent nearly two hours tackling the blaze which is thought to have started in an outside wheelie bin before spreading to the store room of the shop in Prentice Place.

Fire-fighters donned breathing apparatus to enter the heavily smoke-logged building and stop the fire spreading to the nearby Red Lion pub on Potter Street.

Harlow Fire Station Officer Trevor Fuller, who attended the incident, told the Guardian: "It spread to the store room and there was quite a bit of damage to drug supplies and files and records.

"We are treating it as suspicious."

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service will carry out an investigation to establish the cause of the blaze.
