BUDGET airline Ryanair has announced plans to launch a new in-flight mobile phone service from Stansted Airport.
It means passengers will be able to make calls and send text messages during flights.
The airline has so far equipped ten planes running out of its Dublin base with the necessary technology, and expects to get clearance to use them by the end of the month (August).
After Dublin, the service will be rolled out at other European airports, starting with its UK base at Stansted.
Standard international roaming charges will apply to in-flight calls.
Ryanair would become the second airline to offer the service after Dubai-based Emirates.
Critics says mobile phone use on planes could lead to air-rage and could compromise safety.
